This page is a structural draft for solicitor review. It is not final legal advice and must be replaced before launch.
1. About these terms
Version: 0.1 (draft). Last updated: [DATE].
1.1 These terms apply when you use evtariffscompared.com (the "site"). By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1.2 The site is run by [COMPANY NAME], a company registered in England and Wales with company number [COMPANY NUMBER] and registered office at [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. In these terms "we", "us" and "EV Tariffs Compared" mean [COMPANY NAME].
1.3 You can contact us at hello@evtariffscompared.com.
1.4 Please also read our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. They explain how we use your information and how the site stores information on your device.
2. What the site does
2.1 EV Tariffs Compared is a comparison and information service for electric vehicle (EV) drivers. It helps you:
- compare home energy tariffs that suit EV charging;
- compare home chargers;
- find and compare EV charger installers;
- read information about grants and funding.
2.2 We are not an energy supplier, a charger installer or a financial, tax or legal adviser. We do not carry out installations. Any energy contract is between you and the supplier. Any installation contract is between you and the installer.
3. How we make money and how results are ordered
3.1 It costs you nothing to use the site, compare options or ask for installer quotes.
3.2 Installers pay us for some of the services we provide to them. This includes paying for introductory leads once an installer has used its allowance, buying credits to accept requests from drivers, and paying for a Featured plan. Installers do not pay us to be included in the directory. Installers on a Featured plan pay for extra prominence, which we label (see 3.6 and 3.7).
3.3 Installers that have a Featured plan are labelled as Featured and may be shown higher in the directory. An installer's logo may be shown only where the installer has an active Featured plan or has bought credits. Whether an installer has paid for a service can therefore affect how its listing looks and where it appears.
3.4 When you ask for quotes, your request can only be sent to installers that are live on our site and able to accept the request (through an active plan, introductory leads or credits). We choose which installers to offer your request to using your location, the areas an installer covers, the type of job, any grant or brand requirement, and how the installer has handled earlier requests (including its acceptance and response record and checked reviews). Payment does not add to an installer's score when we match a request. It only decides whether an installer is able to accept a request at all. This means the installers we show are not every installer in the UK.
3.5 Paid relationships with suppliers and brands. Some energy suppliers and charger brands pay us. This can be an affiliate fee or commission when you click through, switch tariff or buy, or a sponsorship payment. These payments are one of the ways we fund the site. Not every supplier or brand pays us, and the site does not cover every supplier or brand on the market.
3.6 Labelling. Where a link, listing, comparison or piece of content involves a payment to us, we label it clearly where you will see it. We use "Featured" for installers on a paid Featured plan, "Sponsored" for paid content or placements, and "Affiliate link" for links where we may earn a commission if you switch or buy. Pages that rank tariffs also carry a note saying we may earn a commission. We do not name individual suppliers or brands in these terms. The labels on each page show which ones apply.
3.7 Effect on results. Tariff results are ranked by estimated cost at your usage. Payment never changes the order of tariff results. Sponsored or Featured placements, where we have them, are always labelled. Installer listings are different: installers on a Featured plan are labelled "Featured" and may be shown higher in the installer directory.
3.8 What it means for you. The tariff rates we show are the supplier's own published rates, and we calculate the figures in the same way whether or not a supplier or brand pays us. The price you pay is set by the supplier or brand, so please check it on their site before you switch or buy.
3.9 We do not accept payment to show information we know is false or misleading, and we do not publish reviews or ratings that are paid for without saying so.
4. Tariff, price and grant information
4.1 Tariff data comes from the Octopus Energy feed and, for other suppliers, from information we enter by hand from supplier sources. We check the information we enter by hand each week. The energy price cap figures we show are taken from Ofgem's website. Each tariff shown in the results carries the date we last checked it, and the ranked results leave out tariffs whose rates are out of date. Tariff prices on the site are labelled as the total price you pay, using the rates the supplier publishes, so that you can compare like with like.
4.2 Charging cost figures are estimates. They depend on things such as how much you drive, your car's efficiency, when you charge and the rates used, and they may differ from what you pay. Prices, eligibility and contract terms can change between our checks. Always confirm the price, eligibility and contract terms with the supplier before you switch.
4.3 Information about grants and funding is general guidance. Eligibility and amounts are set by the scheme provider and can change. Check the scheme's official pages before you rely on it.
4.4 Nothing on the site is financial, tax, legal or energy-supply advice.
4.5 We take reasonable care to keep information accurate, but we cannot promise it is complete or without errors. If you spot something wrong, please tell us at hello@evtariffscompared.com.
5. Asking for installer quotes
5.1 If you ask for quotes, we ask you to agree before we share your details. With your agreement, we send your request and contact details to the installers shown to you, so that they can quote for your job. If one of them cannot respond, we automatically offer your request to another installer. Each request goes to a limited number of installers. Details of how we handle your information are in the Privacy Policy.
5.2 Once an installer accepts your request, it becomes responsible for how it uses your details. It may contact you about your request.
5.3 Any quote, survey, installation, warranty or aftercare is provided by the installer, not by us. The contract is between you and the installer. We are not a party to it and we are not responsible for the installer's work, prices, quotes or conduct, except where the law says otherwise.
5.4 Before you accept a quote, we suggest you check the installer's registrations, insurance and previous work, and get the price and what is included in writing.
5.5 We check certain details of installers before listing them (for example scheme registration, insurance, Companies House details and trading address). These checks are not a guarantee of the quality or safety of any installer's work.
5.6 You can ask us to stop sharing your request or to delete it by contacting hello@evtariffscompared.com. We cannot recall details already shared with an installer, but we can ask the installer to stop using them, and you can also contact the installer directly.
6. Reviews
6.1 At launch the site does not show review scores or star ratings. If we add reviews later, we will publish review guidelines before they appear. The guidelines will say how reviews are checked, how fake or incentivised reviews are handled and how a review can be reported, and we will update these terms.
7. Using the site
7.1 You agree to use the site lawfully and fairly. You must not:
- copy, scrape or harvest data from the site by automated means, except as we allow in writing;
- try to get around security measures, or interfere with how the site works;
- submit false, misleading or abusive requests, or requests for someone else without their knowledge;
- use the site to send spam or unsolicited marketing;
- use information on the site to build a competing comparison or lead service.
7.2 We may block access, remove content or decline a request where we reasonably think these rules have been broken.
8. Content you give us
8.1 If you send us text or photos (for example with a quote request), you confirm they are yours to share and do not breach anyone else's rights.
8.2 You give us permission to store them and to pass them, with your request, to the installers described in section 5, for the purpose of getting you quotes.
8.3 Please do not include more personal information in photos or notes than is needed for the job.
9. Our content and intellectual property
9.1 We, or our licensors, own the content, design, text, data compilation and branding on the site. Supplier and installer names, logos and marks belong to their owners.
9.2 You may view the site and print or save pages for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, republish or sell any part of it without our written permission.
10. Links and third-party services
10.1 The site links to supplier, installer, charger, grant and other third-party sites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or how they handle your information. Their own terms and privacy notices apply.
10.2 Payments on the site are not taken from drivers. Installers pay through Stripe, as described in the installer terms.
11. Our responsibility to you
11.1 Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot legally be limited or excluded. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
11.2 We provide the site with reasonable care and skill.
11.3 Subject to section 11.1, we are not responsible for loss that was not a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms, or for loss caused by a supplier, an installer or another third party, or for loss caused by you relying on an estimate or on information that you did not check with the supplier or installer as section 4 suggests.
11.4 The site is for personal use. We are not responsible for lost profit, lost business or loss of opportunity. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
12. Changes to the site and to these terms
12.1 We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site, for example to improve it, fix errors or comply with the law.
12.2 We may update these terms. The version that applies is the one on the site when you use it. We will show the date of the latest update at the top. If a change would materially affect people who have already asked for quotes, we will tell them by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect.
13. Complaints
13.1 If you are unhappy with our service, email hello@evtariffscompared.com with the page or request reference and a short description. We will acknowledge and look into it, and keep you informed of progress. See also our Complaints page.
13.2 Complaints about how we handle personal data are covered in the Privacy Policy. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
13.3 Complaints about an installer's work should go to the installer first. Tell us too, because it helps us check installers. We cannot decide disputes between you and an installer.
14. Governing law
14.1 These terms and any dispute connected with them are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in the courts of the part of the UK where you live. Your rights as a consumer are not affected.
